Boing Boing: Mummified corpse lay in bed for two years while bills were auto-paid

Boing Boing: Mummified corpse lay in bed for two years while bills were auto-paid: “A guy gets his pension cheque automatically deposited into his bank account. Then he authorizes automatic withdrawals to pay his condo fees, phone, etc. Then he dies in bed. How long does it take for someone to notice that he’s checked out? Two years.”

They’ve got competition here now – it’s like an auction – the record is currently at six years. Automate enough things in your life, and eventually it just doesn’t need you any more.

Joi Ito’s Web: Conference call surfing

Joi Ito’s Web: Conference call surfing: “My question is, am I a weirdo or an edge case for how people will work once we all have IM and voice and conference calls are free.”

I think you’re probably both, Joi, but we love you for it ;) It’s people who use this sort of technology to extremes that give the rest of us a picture of where these things could lead. We may like the idea, or we may not, but it at least gives us a picture to think about. It even inspired me to actually run my IM progs, at least until I get trapped into another intensely dull conversation with some school kid who communicates entirely in punctuation.

QT’s Diary: “I had to delete some of the entries because my lawyer told me it wasn’t wise to call a kid negatively influenced by PULP FICTION a ‘dumbass,’ and then create a ‘stupid rant with way too many fucks in it for your own good.’”

There can be too many fucks in Quentin Tarantino’s blog? Interesting concept.

Update 2005-10-31: I seem to remember that this one turned out to be a hoax.
