New Moog

Update 2: CDM have just posted their summary of the Little Phatty, with some bits of better news. The one shown so far, they say, is a special edition, and only 1200 of them will be made. After that, the standard model will have plastic sides, no ‘Bob Moog’ signature, but will sell for closer to $1000 than $1500. They also give us more insight into why this little thing is so special. Apart from the shiny back panel and blue LEDs, anyway.

Update: OK, it’s here. And it’s called “Little Phatty”, which seems to have upset some people. It looks way more retro than I was expecting, but then I can’t claim to know much about Moog’s product line, never mind make decent predictions about new stuff. Anyway, the scoop this time goes to Music Thing…

The price turned out to be $1475, so CDM’s suspicions were pretty much spot on.

At least a little bit of the truth is out before the big unveiling – there is going to be a new Moog synth – all the good bits, but at a low price (somewhere around $1500 is suspected).

I’ve never even tried a Moog, and I’m not really into synths enough to understand what makes this special – for me, it’s just the name ‘Moog’ that does it. The official release is here…

…but for a bit of commentary from someone who actually knows a bit about these things, head over to…

The unveiling is on the 29th of March.
