New Moog

Uncategorized, by

Update 2: CDM have just posted their summary of the Little Phatty, with some bits of better news. The one shown so far, they say, is a special edition, and only 1200 of them will be made. After that, the standard model will have plastic sides, no ‘Bob Moog’ signature, but will sell for closer to $1000 than $1500. They also give us more insight into why this little thing is so special. Apart from the shiny back panel and blue LEDs, anyway.

Update: OK, it’s here. And it’s called “Little Phatty”, which seems to have upset some people. It looks way more retro than I was expecting, but then I can’t claim to know much about Moog’s product line, never mind make decent predictions about new stuff. Anyway, the scoop this time goes to Music Thing…

The price turned out to be $1475, so CDM’s suspicions were pretty much spot on.

At least a little bit of the truth is out before the big unveiling – there is going to be a new Moog synth – all the good bits, but at a low price (somewhere around $1500 is suspected).

I’ve never even tried a Moog, and I’m not really into synths enough to understand what makes this special – for me, it’s just the name ‘Moog’ that does it. The official release is here…

…but for a bit of commentary from someone who actually knows a bit about these things, head over to…

The unveiling is on the 29th of March.

Behringer iAXE USB Guitar

Uncategorized, by

New from Behringer the iAXE USB Guitar, the latest electric guitar to hook up with a PC and offer loads of cool extra features:

“The iAXE comes with loads of great-sounding virtual amps and stomp boxes powered by state-of-the-art modeling software. Jam along with your MP3, WAV and AIFF songs or backing tracks on your Mac® or PC. We even included multi-track recording and editing software so you can record your music on the spot.”

Oh yes, it’s compatible with Macs. Otherwise they wouldn’t have been allowed to call it an iAXE.

Find out more here.

So Much for the New Blogs Sandbox

Uncategorized, by

I’ve heard from a number of places that any new blogs greated go into a sandbox, and Google won’t return any results from them for at least six months or a year. Turns out it’s not true. I only created the Spam Recycling Centre a couple of weeks ago, and it’s already appearing in Google search results.

Interesting. Either they’ve stopped sandboxing new blogs, or they’ve un-sandboxed it because it had to be manually checked for being a spam blog.

So far, it’s made ten cents from the advertising. That’s not enough to get too excited about, but it’s more than any of the spammers made by sending me the stuff in the first place, so I guess it works out well on balance.

Getting Up Close with Michelangelo

Uncategorized, by

Waldemar Januszczak has written an article for The Times describing the time he got chance to get a lot closer than most of us ever will to the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, as painted by Michelangelo. Actually, he may have got a bit closer than you’d want to get…

You know that famous Adam on the Sistine Chapel ceiling whose fingers are nearly touching God’s but not quite? Well, I’ve stroked him. I’ve run my hand along his naked body, and I’ve slapped that big, muscled thigh of his. Not a hard slap, mind you. Just a soft slap of affection that ended on a rub. I’ve even stroked his sweet little willy. I know I shouldn’t have done. But I couldn’t stop myself.

Maybe a little more restraint would have been nice, but that lack of restraint has lead to some interesting insights into one of the greatest works of art in history…

I also enjoyed his sense of humour, which, from close up, turned out to be refreshingly puerile. If you look closely at the angels who attend the scary prophetess on the Sistine ceiling known as the Cumaean Sibyl, you will see that one of them has stuck his thumb between his fingers in that mysteriously obscene gesture that visiting fans are still treated to today at Italian football matches. It means something along the lines of: how would you like this inserted into your rectum, ragazzo?

I could also now tell you how many brush strokes are involved in painting Adam’s penis, but I won’t – you’ll have to read the full article on The Times’ site for that…
