Going Full-Time

I’m starting a new full-time temp booking tomorrow. I’ve been temping for years, but for the last few years I’ve been on the County Council’s in-house “Temp Register”. Tomorrow sees my return to the world of agency work, something I haven’t done for nearly 6 years. The agency I’ve signed on with seem OK, I’ve certainly heard lots of good things about them. Time will tell, I guess.

The shift from 3 days a week to 5 days a week is going to be challenging! It’s something I knew I’d have to do sooner or later once Michael gave up work, and spending a few months doing 37-40 hours a week rather than 22 and a half should help the finances a great deal.

I was in my last temp contract for over 10 months. That’s a long time for one temp job. I was fortunate enough to have a great boss there, who I’m going to miss, but there are many aspects of that particular job I’m not going to miss so I’m looking forward to seeing what happens tomorrow.

There’s every possibility that this new job will be interesting and fun, and with good people. There is, of course, the possibility that the job will be tedious, the atmosphere terrible and the people simply clones of every annoying colleague I’ve ever seen before. But I’ve got good feelings about this, and I’m sure it’ll be the former. If it’s not, then I will simply enjoy one of the perks of temp work – the ability to move on and work somewhere else.

I will share my findings (in a heavily-edited “don’t mention the company” kind of way) during the coming week. I’m not going to let working full-time affect my activity here, but something has had to give. So it’s time to cut down on my visits to a certain fan forum. I’ve been spending way too much time there anyway.

Thank God for Durga Keyser, her fabulous book and new Yahoo! Group – she’s a good friend and mentor and I’ll be calling to her for support more than ever over the new few weeks.
