I had my first gain this week. Only half a pound which is a measley 226g (or thereabouts), and I do know what’s caused it, so I should be able to get back on plan properly for week 9. Not that I really went off plan this week, we just did a lot of eating out because we were entertaining visitors which included introducing our friend from New Zealand to the delights of the Devonshire Cream Tea (yes, I could have gone without, but I compromised and had a half portion instead).
The problem with eating out is, unless you really want to make a nuisance of yourself and talk to the chef and inspect the kitchens before you order your food, you can never be 100% sure what’s gone into the dish you’ve ordered or how it’s cooked. There are a couple of places I know I can get food that won’t interfere with the plan; but for the most part it’s a case of guessing how much oil has been used, how was the meat cooked, etc etc.
Eating out wasn’t the only problem. One thing I didn’t do last week was plan ahead. Most of our meals were decided on the fly, even down to deciding what days I would be doing. It doesn’t work as well if I don’t plan, because then I find myself poking around in the fridge just like I used to. Although the contents of the fridge are nowhere near as dangerous as they once were, it is better to know what’s on the menu for the day.
And my final excuse for gaining weight… I have another cold. I could have easily lost that half pound last night if I was just able to blow my nose…
Back on track then for the coming week… the journey continues.
