More Ad Fiddling

A bit more fiddling with PigPog's ads today. I replaced the Chitika ads at the bottom of the page with AuctionAds some time back, but it wasn't working too well. The ads were theoretically targeted using the page title, but as with similar Chitika ads, our titles rarely work well as keywords. I've now implemented AuctionAds as another type of ad we can insert 'semi-manually' - we put a simple code into a page, and Drupal turns it into an AuctionAds ad unit. Like this one for "Parker 51", for example...

Blog Advertising with Performancing Partners

You may notice some new ads on the right, from Performancing - we're experimenting with their new advertising network. Looks like it should run alongside Google AdSense safely enough (they don't look like Google ads, and they're not contextual, so they should stay on the right side of Google's ToS). They're just in the process of launching (haven't even officially announced yet), and don't have any advertisers, but it might be kind of interesting to experience something like this from the beginning. Plus, they seem like nice guys.

If you have a blog, and fancy giving it a go, you can read more at Performancing Partners, and if you go there from here and sign up, we should even get a bonus as a percentage of what you make.

Minor Ad Fiddling

A couple of minor changes to the ads here today...

  • Some pages get Chitika ads again. They've made a couple of improvements to them, so I like the idea of giving them another go. When they do appear, it will be in with the content within a post, and usually only on relatively long posts. These only appear when we've added them manually, and given them a keyword to look for, so they should also be relevant. They look like this...

Get Paid to Sleep

It's a simple idea - if you make money by people clicking on ads, and they click on ads even when you're not doing anything, then you're making money whatever you're doing. Andrew says he gets paid to sleep, to mow the lawn, and to drive his wife to work.

I'm disappointed that he doesn't mention being paid to poo, though. That's the best.

Mind you, you can do that with most jobs.

Making Money from your Web Site

Latest Update: Added a link to AdSense's own Optimization Tips to the Resources section.

If you've got a web site of your own for sharing your creative stuff (or other reasons), even if it's just a blog using Blogger, you can potentially make a bit of money whilst doing it.

If you're thinking of setting up a site just to make money, it's probably not going to work, but if you have a site, and want to get a little income from it, you might be able to do it.
