- Open Loops: A Low-Tech Notes Retrieval System.
One of the criticisms of paper systems is always that they’re not searchable. Not usually a problem for your GTD style lists, but it can be a problem for notes you might want later. Make a note of some event, then find you need to know when it was later? Might be very difficult, since the paper notes tend to be sorted by date. Not bad if it’s a couple of weeks later, and you know down to a couple of days when it was, but if you can only narrow it down to a six-month window, you could be searching for a long time.
I’m using paper for quite a bit of note-taking at the moment, but I’m working on the idea of copying anything that might be significant to computer storage somewhere, so I can find it later. Mainly here, so you’re reading my general dumping-ground right now.
