Shoot Story: A Long Day with Lauren

Four locations and two outfits – our biggest shoot yet!

The plan for the day didn’t start as a photoshoot. We were going to Exeter Comic Con, and Lauren was coming with us. She’s come with us a couple of times before, and while it’s a pretty small con, it’s pretty enjoyable, and a lot less crowded than most.

I don’t cosplay at all (though I have had a couple of occasions of people thinking they know who I’m cosplaying – no, I just dress like this every day) and Sam was cosplaying as The Cinema Snob. Lauren wasn’t quite cosplaying as such, but she was wearing a Lolita dress she’d made herself, which looked amazing. We’d planned on taking a few photos of her in the dress after the con, at least.

Once we’d done with the con, we decided to start with a few photos around the back of Westpoint Arena, and in the car park.

Sam had cosplayed as The Cinema Snob, so we grabbed a few shots too.

There was plenty of space, so I could blur out the background nicely, and Lauren could spin around making the dress fly.

We decided to head back towards Tiverton, but stop at Ivan’s for coffee on the way, and to take some more photos in the cafe garden. Ivan makes great coffee, and the garden is a nice place to spend time too, with some interesting sculptures and the edge of the farm that Halberton Court Farm Shop is attached to.

The sculptures made for some interesting shots, with Lauren playing a giant.

With Lauren standing on the ridge at the edge of the garden, we got some fun angles, and with me on the ridge, we could get shots looking down on her too.

After that, Lauren wanted to carry on, but with a change of outfit, so we went back to her place for a while and met her parents while she got changed. I took the chance to copy the photos from the card into my iPad. At that time, I had an iPad Mini 4, with the older Lightning SD card reader, and it took a long time to copy over, so we were stuck there for a bit longer than we’d intended. (Now I have an iPad Pro with USB-C card reader, and it’s fast.)

After that, we headed for Bickleigh Mill, a nice little tourist spot just outside Tiverton. It’s a nice place, with a shop crammed with all sorts of interesting bits and pieces, and a good little cafe/restaurant. There are rivers and bridges, and a bit of woods, too, which made it a good location for some pretty varied styles. We took quite a few photos under one bridge, and on another.

But we’re going to have a page break first, so we don’t overload your browser to too many photos on one page. There are 170 photos in this set, so it can get a bit much. Follow on to page 2
