If you’re reading this, you’re seeing PigPog on its new host. Or you’re subscribed by RSS, and just seeing this in your feed. Do people still use RSS? I mean, I do, but maybe it’s just me left now.
If you do get updates by RSS or email, you’re probably going to be getting a lot of updates coming up, mostly for stuff you might have seen before. Sorry. I’m rebuilding the site from scratch here on WordPress.com, so everything will be posted anew.
Why a new host? Well, I’d been having trouble with the site for a long time, with a lot of the photos just not showing up. I’m not sure where the problem was, but it prompted me to rethink things. PigPog is a bit simpler than it used to be, and we were paying for a dedicated server that just isn’t needed now. So, time to simplify.
Theoretically, I could export the whole site, and import it to the new host, but that failed. Since there were something like 10,000 posts, dating back around 20 years, it wasn’t too surprising. And most of it was old and outdated, and not relevant to what PigPog is about now – my photography. So I decided to just grab the most relevant stuff, and a few old posts that had to live on, and start again.
So here we are. I was going to wait until a bit more content was here, but the current site stopped working, so rather than getting it fixed, I just went ahead and moved. Maybe we need a big animated GIF ‘under construction’ sign, but it’s about 20 years too late for that sort of thing.
Until things get a bit more settled in, I’ll be updating PigPog Migration Status, rather than adding even more new posts.
