In 2023-11 I upgraded to this from my iPhone 13 Pro. An indulgence, tbh, not remotely necessary, the 13 was still doing fine.
I've been using my iPhone more for photography recently. If I can manage without my Sony A7iii, I can probably go without my bag, which means less weight and less bulk. For the types of photography I'm likely to do in the city, the iPhone works well. My Sony would probably be better, but the difference is not going to be noticeable most of the time.
Advantages Over My Camera
- Smaller and lighter. Especially since I'd have it with my anyway - effectively zero size and weight.
- Quicker to access if the camera would be in my bag. If I'd have the camera on a strap, the camera might win, but my phone lives in my pocket, ready to be grabbed.
- Quicker to 'change lenses'. Even if I'm using my tiny zoom (Sony SEL2860) on my camera, the iPhone beats it on range, and I'd need at least a couple more lenses to match. The camera would win with the Sony SEL24240 lens, but that's big and heavy.
- Less noticeable. Nobody thinks much of someone using a phone as a camera, but an actual camera looks more out of place. The reverse of this is that if people think you're photographing them with a phone, they may be more likely to assume bad intentions - like mocking them on social media.
